Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Prayer Requests 6/17/10

The prayer requests from this week's Love in Action feeding are included below. This week someone wrapped two dollar bills inside a prayer request slip and placed them in the bag with the prayers. These offerings have been occurring more and more regularly, and it is humbling ....

Last Thursday, our good friend Carl Thomas "Tommy" Farley died. Tommy was known as Bunkie to his family, and he died of throat cancer at age 62 at Broward General Hospital. Tommy worked the front door for us on Thursdays, and in his earlier life in NYC in the '70s, he cut hair for a variety of celebrities. He cut hair for us, too, when we needed him — in addition to playing the piano and getting us to sing along. I included a photo of him from the days before the streets, when he was still a stickball champion and a pool shark. The little boy in this picture is "Bunkie's" nephew, also named Tom, who back then called his uncle "Uncle Monkey." We thank God for Tommy's life and for his friendship, and pray that he is at peace now and out of pain.

Thank you for praying for this ministry! These beautiful people often live lives on the margins and in the gaps. But God has no margins! In fact, He knows the number of hairs on their heads. He knows the number on yours and mine, too.
Blessings,
Erika

Carl Thomas Farley, 1947 - 2010

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31

Prayer Requests 6/10/10

The prayer requests from this week's Love in Action feeding are included below. Thank you for keeping these precious people in your prayers.

Last night at the feeding, a gentleman came up to put his prayer request in my "prayer bag" and with a huge smile on his face, leaned in to whisper in my ear: "Thank you all for praying for me. It's working!"

The act of praying for someone else, especially someone you don't know, is humbling and incomprehensible. As we lift up these names and these needs, it sometimes FEELS like a feather on the wind, lifted up and released and gone. But it's not like that at all! The Holy Spirit is present among us, working both in our lives and the lives of those we're praying for.

Thank you for keeping this ministry in your prayers!
Blessings,
Erika

"If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care — then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand." Philippians 2:1-4

I am so disappointed, sad, and unhappy I traded my heart of flesh for a stone. Countless heavenly sounds once resided in my soul and they have stopped some time ago and now feel like hatred. Dear Father, please listen to my saying. I am the worst of all sinners. Please listen to my prayer. Many tears I've shared on the reflection of my life, I have spoke in vain and not enough prayer. Please take my fears and send them in the middle of the desert. I need an angel — I demand strength and faith. Please pray for me, so I have faith in my Father.
