Prayer Requests 1/14/10

Here are the prayer requests from last night's Love in Action feeding. Thank you for faithfully keeping this ministry and its guests in your prayers!

Undoubtedly many of you are already praying for the people of Haiti, but Pery made the point today that many families at God's Little Lambs, Love in Action, and the larger Hope Central community have connections and family in Haiti for whom they are desperately concerned. Please continue to hold this community in your prayers. The suffering is overwhelming — our only hope is to turn it all over to God in prayer.
Blessings, Erika

Prayer Requests 1/7/10

Broward County homeless shelters are reporting their highest occupancy rates in a decade because of the record cold we're experiencing and the increasing number of homeless people on our streets. About 325 people stayed at the county's shelters on Tuesday night when temperatures dropped to freezing. And there is no count on the number of people who remain unsheltered in the cold.

When we turn the heat up, or pile on another blanket, or don our winter coats, let's not forget those without a home of their own to take refuge in, without a blanket or a coat, or without shelter of any kind. This weekend is projected to be the coldest yet, and we must pray mightily for all of our street friends to take shelter if possible and be safe.

With sadness, I also note that two homeless people have died in the Fort Lauderdale area since my last e-mail. One, Robert Lee Merritt, was 28 years old and drowned in the New River on New Year's Eve while drinking with his friends. The other, a man who went by the nickname "Oklahoma," was found near Hollywood's Young Circle, dead of exposure to the cold. Please pray for their families and friends, all those who loved them and lost them too soon.
Blessings, Erika

Prayer Requests 12/31/09

Happy New Year!!! In his e-mail message this week, Pastor Phil at Christ Church shared John Wesley's "Covenant Prayer." It is a powerful prayer to lift up, and I'd like to share it here:

I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.

Please pray for this ministry to yield all things to God and be put to what He would have us be doing. Pray for us to be renewed this new year, always seeking His counsel. And pray for us to effectively be His hands and feet in serving the homeless and needy, reflecting back the love and forgiveness He shows all of us.

Thank you for keeping this ministry and its guests in your prayers!
Blessings for a healthy 2010,
Erika
