Prayer Requests 12/24/09

Merry Christmas! Today, Love in Action hosted a Christmas Eve worship service and luncheon, which got me thinking about the innkeeper who turned away Mary and Joseph on the night of our savior's birth; how often we turn away from those in need. And in doing so, how we turn away from Jesus and the love He offers us so freely.

A friend of a friend — Virginia Carlsen — wrote the following poem, which I share with you all tonight. Please keep this ministry and its guests in your prayers, and please also hold the specific needs of our guests in your prayers this week.

May Christ be born again and again in our hearts!
Blessings,
Erika

The Innkeeper
by Virginia Carlsen

The door had closed and I turned away
From the couple who stood in their plight.
How could I know that the Hope of the world
Would be born in my village that night?

How could I dream that the words I had said
Would be quoted again and again?
"No room in the inn" — I had said them before,
But never to such as them.

How gladly I'd have given my room, my bed,
My all to Him that night,
That in my inn would have been born
The Prince of Peace and Light.

How could I guess that by shutting the door
On two people of lowly estate,
I was shutting out the Prince of Peace,
And now it is too late.

*****

Too late for him, but not for us.
Christ still is at our door.
He's seeking entrance to our hearts
To reign for-evermore.

And though at Christmas time the Christ
Two thousand times be born,
If He's not born within our hearts
Our hope is still forlorn.

So let us at this Holy time
Accept God's cure for sin;
And open wide our hearts this day
To let the Christ-Child in.
