Prayer Requests 12/15/16

Last Thursday, a special memorial service was held on behalf of 88 precious lives lost over the past year, all of whom were local and homeless. I have included their names in this message so we can thank God for them by name as we also pray for the thousands of men, women and children in our area who continue to be homeless and/or unsheltered. At this time of year when so many have so much, it’s humbling to consider how many have so little.

We also ask you to keep our volunteer Stacey in prayer. Stacey is homeless and was recently robbed and injured at a bus stop. During the struggle she was dragged and her arm was run over by the assailants’ car. Please pray for her physical and emotional recovery from this awful event.

In the words of the Advent song, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”! We need you, Lord. Be with us as we pray for the least of these: your beloved children who often exist on the fringes of society and who feel invisible. Make the unseen seen.

O Sapientia (Wisdom)
O Adonai (Lord)
O Radix Jesse (Root of Jesse)
O Clavis David (Key of David)
O Oriens (Dayspring)
O Rex Gentium (King of the Nations)
O Emmanuel (With us is God)

But on this humbled ground, a tiny shoot, hopeful and promising,
    will sprout from Jesse’s stump;
A branch will emerge from his roots to bear fruit.
And on this child from David’s line, the Spirit of the Eternal One will alight and rest.
By the Spirit of wisdom and discernment
    He will shine like the dew.
By the Spirit of counsel and strength
    He will judge fairly and act courageously.
By the Spirit of knowledge and reverence of the Eternal One,
He will take pleasure in honoring the Eternal.
He will determine fairness and equity;
    He will consider more than what meets the eye,
And weigh in more than what he’s told.
So that even those who can’t afford a good defense
    will nevertheless get a fair and equitable judgment.
With just a word, He will end wickedness and abolish oppression.
    With nothing more than the breath of His mouth, He will destroy evil.
He will clothe himself with righteousness and truth;
    the impulse to right wrongs will be in his blood.
Isaiah 11:1-5 (VOICE)

I will grant him the key to David’s royal house and
        no one can shut what he opens;
        no one can open what he shuts.
Isaiah 22:22 (VOICE)

The people who had been living in darkness
    have seen a great light.
The light of life has shined on those who dwelt
    in the shadowy darkness of death.
Isaiah 9:2 (VOICE)

Hope of all hopes, dream of our dreams,
    a child is born, sweet-breathed; a son is given to us: a living gift.
And even now, with tiny features and dewy hair, He is great.
    The power of leadership, and the weight of authority, will rest on His shoulders.
His name? His name we’ll know in many ways—
    He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Dear Father everlasting, ever-present never-failing,
    Master of Wholeness, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 (VOICE)

Suit yourself. The Lord will give you a proof-sign anyway: See, a young maiden will conceive. She will give birth to a son and name Him Immanuel, that is, “God with us.”
Isaiah 7:14 (VOICE)

Blessings,
Erika
