Prayer Requests 12/23/10

The prayer requests from this week's Love in Action feeding are below. Thank you for keeping this ministry and its guests in your prayers!

Last night, a guest approached me with a plastic grocery bag in hand. "Can you pass these along to someone?" he said. I glanced in the bag and saw several pairs of ladies' shoes. "Thanks, we will!" I then handed the bag off to Debbie in the kitchen and continued serving dinner to our guests.

An hour or so later, one of our volunteers came over with a prayer request in hand. It was written by Katyanna, with whom our volunteer had spent some time that evening. Katyanna had escaped a domestic abuse situation and is living in her car, and her prayer request reflected very basic needs: a haircut, a place to take a shower, some work-appropriate clothing, and some shoes. We located Katyanna and a bunch of us gathered around her, brainstorming about ways to help. In the middle of that, I remembered the bag of shoes. "What size do you wear?" I asked. Still standing, she slipped on several pairs of shoes until we found two that fit.

Today I keep thinking about that little miracle and the place of privilege that we are granted working in this ministry. At the best moments, I feel like we are a conduit through which God's blessings flow. We've seen so many miracles in our dining hall and among our guests: physical and spiritual healing of every kind, friends released from jail, families reunited, people experiencing God's Word and love for the first time. Hundreds of guests fed, clothed, and encouraged. We've shared meatloaf, prayers, socks, songs, smiles, and hugs. And I'm overwhelmed by how abundantly God loves us and blesses us.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17

Thank you for being part of this ministry. Merry Christmas to you and yours—Erika
