Prayer Requests 10/29/09

Here are the prayer requests from this week's Love in Action feeding. We had a big group of athletes from American Heritage school with us this week, in addition to our friends from Calvary and our usual volunteers.

It was so wonderful to see such a diverse group of people working together to nourish the bodies and spirits of our guests in Jesus' name!! One of my favorite moments was seeing and hearing all those big, hulking teenage athletes singing "This Little Light of Mine" around the piano before the guests came into the dining room. Their joy was infectious! It was priceless.

Blessings,

Erika

Prayer Requests 10/22/09

Here are the prayer requests from this week's LIA feeding. More people than we expected arrived for dinner this week, possibly due to the colder weather up north. (Perhaps people are heading to South Florida earlier in the season than usual?) I also heard several requests for blankets, as the cold snap earlier in the week got people thinking about preparations for winter.

This got ME thinking about cold weather .... Last weekend I was happy to have the unseasonably cool weather because it gave me a taste of autumn, but for many people it was the first of many long nights spent on cold pavement, benches, or earth. If you are able to provide cold weather items like blankets and coats, please make them available. We'll be sure they get to the people who need them!

Thank you for keeping this ministry and those it serves in your daily prayers.

Blessings,

Erika

Prayer Requests 10/15/09

Here are the prayer requests from this Thursday's LIA feeding.

One young man I spoke to yesterday said this was his first time at our feeding. He said he came because someone else had told him about us: "A guy told me, 'The meatloaf people will stuff you so full of food, you won't be able to eat another bite!' And it's true!!" He went on to ask about where he could attend a church service, and was all smiles when I left him happily eating at a back table.

As Dianne has said many times, once you feed a person's body, he is more available to have his soul fed. So to all those who prepare these wonderful, filling meals, a special thank you!

Please pray for this ministry to continue its mission of feeding bodies, hearts, and spirits. And please lift up the prayers of our precious guests this week.
Blessings,
Erika

Prayer Requests 10/1/09

This Thursday was a very special night for the Love in Action ministry — we had a wedding!

Kayla and Lorenzo were married by Pastor Fawn Mikel in the sanctuary in place of our regular service before dinner. The bride and groom looked lovely, and it was a beautiful and very moving service. Pastor Heather Collver was the photographer, Darlene Jones played the wedding music, our volunteer Teresa sang, Pery was a witness/groomsman .... There was a bridal bouquet of red roses and a gorgeous wedding cake. And of course, cupcakes for all our guests following dinner! I'll be posting photos on the blog later this weekend, so be sure to check them out.

But I wanted to share with you what Kayla said about getting married at Hope Central. She told me she'd been sad about not being able to have a big formal wedding with "real" guests, and then she thought about the Parable of the Wedding Banquet from the New Testament.

Matthew 22:8-10

8 Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9 Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

Kayla said, "God told me, 'These people are my kings and queens. They are valuable to me, they just don't know it yet.' " What a powerful message!

Please pray for this beautiful couple as they begin a new life together. They're leaving town this weekend for Texas, where Lorenzo hopes to find employment in construction.

This wedding was a chance to celebrate with real joy and hope for the future, and we are grateful to Kayla and Lorenzo for sharing it with all of us — especially in the face of the unanswered needs and hopelessness of many of our guests.

We know our hope is in Jesus Christ; please pray for each of us to effectively share that hope with those we serve. We want to be reflections of His love, but so often we fall short. The needs are great and the stakes are high.

Thank you for being one of our prayer warriors!
