Prayer Requests 11/19/09

At last night's Love in Action feeding, we were blessed to have a group of twelve Girl Scout volunteers (with five parents), as well as our usual crew of athletes from American Heritage High School helping out. We also had another high schooler in the parking lot giving out backpacks she had collected at school!

It brought to mind the section of Matthew 18 when the disciples ask Jesus, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" Jesus calls a child to his side and says: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Amen! What a beautiful example they set for us! In fact, the first 10 or so prayers on the list this week were offered up by the little girls from the Scout troop, who wanted to pray for the people they met at the feeding.

Many of our guests commented on how wonderful it was to see the smiling, servant faces of these kids. One man, a former Marine and father of four, couldn't stop crying because seeing the girls reminded him of his own children, whose lives he is missing due to addiction and homelessness. You'll see him referred to in the girls' prayers; they were so worried about him.

Please keep these prayers at your side this week. Please lift them up with your own. And let us be thankful for our many blessings, even as we remember those who are struggling all around us.
Blessings,
Erika
